Fibaro’s The Button Review

March 8, 2017

In The Simpsons, Mr. Burns has a button for a trap door in his office and another button for his hounds just next to his front door. The main problems with Burns’ buttons are that they are not wireless and they almost always fail. Fibaro’s The Button is not only a wireless device, but it can also control every Z-Wave compatible device in your home.

The Fibaro The Button is a small, battery-powered Z-Wave Plus device that comes in red, blue, brown, orange, green, yellow, white, and black. You can use it as a universal switch for your connected smart devices and also as a button to call for help in an emergency.

The device mounts on any surface in your home in any location or position. You can mount it to your walls, under your desk, beside your bed, and so on. The battery can last for two years, and it is incredibly easy to install.

Once you buy the Fibaro The Button, add it to your Z-Wave controller and attach it to any surface you prefer. Fibaro recognizes six different actions which include one click, two clicks, three clicks, four clicks, five clicks, and hold down. You can use various combinations of clicks to control different appliances and electronics in your home. Let’s look at common Fibaro The Button uses:

Control Your Appliances and Electronics

Have you ever wanted to turn on your oven to heat up when you are busy preparing food but can’t do it because you will smudge the oven buttons with flour? You can simply place a Fibaro next to you on the kitchen counter and press it to switch on the oven. You can also control your fan, your garage door, your toaster, and your lights with Fibaro The Button. All you need to control your electronics is a module that you plug into a wall socket, then connect any device to it. The module has a Z-Wave plug that allows you to control your lights, electronics, and appliances not connected or smart.

Call Taxi or Order Food

If configured correctly, you can use The Button to call a taxi or even order some food. You can set it in such a way that three clicks on the button on your desk quickly orders for pizza without having to pick up your phone and scroll for contacts. A different number of clicks can be set up for calling a taxi.

Control Alarms or Security Systems

In an emergency, you may not have the time to search for your phone and call for help. A Fibaro button placed in a convenient position could help you get the help you need in no time. These buttons can be placed in different discreet areas in your home that only you can identify. A long press on the button can be a good action for calling for help.

Run Complex Scenes

Scenes are synchronized actions of several devices. You can set up several buttons in a sequence to integrate different devices in your home to trigger complex scenes. For instance, you may pick three different buttons with different colors and click them using a personalized sequence to trigger a “going to bed scene.” A “going to bed scene” could involve the lights going off, the doors locking themselves, and the window shades closing. You can also have a “start the party scene” that dims the lights and turns on the music.

One advantage that the Fibaro The Button has over smartphones is that it is just a simple button that does not require apps to operate.
